WellCAD 5.8
Updates and Build Notes
Build 905
January 30th, 2025
Bug fixes
- The Sentinel LDK License Manager service was shut down during the installation of a new WellCAD version and did not restart automatically. A solution has been implemented to fix the problem.
- The mean value displayed below the Dip Distribution diagrams in the Polar & Rose log in WellCAD v5.8.844 was incorrect and corresponded to the mean azimuth. It has been fixed for this new version.
- When the path set for Log Templates was invalid WellCAD froze or crashed. The problem has been fixed.
Build 844
January 9th, 2025
New features
- The Depth Range option from the View menu supports date / time based documents now. The user can define a start and end time of the data interval to be displayed. Consequently the entry in the View menu has been renamed Depth / Time Range... .
- Branch distribution diagrams in Polar & Rose logs, the document header and the Dip Charts workspace support the connections per branch (Cb) overlay now. It can be used as a visual guide indicating correlations between node types terminating the branches within a network of discontinuities.
- The print priority for Shading logs has been changed in order to have full 100% opacity when the corresponding option has been set in the log's properties. A default value for the opacity of the shading color (e.g. 50%) can be specified under Tools > Options > Logs > Shading log.
Bug fixes
- The import of high resolution graphic files (JPEG, BMP, PNG and GIF) caused problems with the correct depth registration when the depth interval was very small (e.g. in the range of several centimeters). The problem has been fixed in this patch.
- Images imported from graphic files (JPEG, BMP, PNG and GIF) will maintain their original orientation after import into WellCAD.
- Performance issues were encountered when using FWS logs with larger data volumes displayed in wiggle style with the shading color up / down option enabled. The issue no longer exists.
- Last used parameters in the Velocity > Single Receiver and Velocity > Two Receivers processes of the FWS module are now remembered.
- Selection of the free hand picking tool in the ISI Workspace while the Classification bar was visible caused WellCAD to close unexpectedly. The problem has been solved.
- The classification of linear picks (e.g. breakouts or lineations) in the ISI Workspace works more stable now.
- Text display issues in the equipment item dialog boxes of the Engineering log are now fixed.
- The default units for the caliper used in the Structure log (Tools > Options > Logs > Structure Log) are properly saved and applied when a new log will be created.
- When switching units in the Caliper Settings dialog box in the Structure, Lineation and Breakout log properties the conversion of the fixed caliper value was incorrect. The problem has been fixed.
- Star shaped classification attributes are now correctly displayed in polar projection diagrams.
- A refresh problem occurring when adjusting a log's low / high scale settings in the Log Summary bar has been solved.
- When changing the position of log tracks using the Snap Grid layout engine it could happen that a log jumped back to its original position when selecting another log title. The problem has been addressed and is solved.
- Snap Grid Layout preferences set under Tools > Options >Document Layout are now respected when importing TFD files.
- When selecting an Image log as input parameter for the Apparent Metal Loss process WellCAD was closing unexpectedly. The issue is solved now.
- The Penetration Max value output in % was calculated incorrectly in the Casing Integrity workspace (value was always 100%). The calculation works correctly now.
- Several instabilities related to the CHU Workspace have been solved. Users experienced problems when displaying the borehole document and the CHU workspace in different tab groups, removing data from the Wavelet log, and when modifying the Wavelet log.
- The printing of Polar Projection diagrams from the Dip Charts workspace no longer produces a cross shaped artifact.
- Dynamic header tables refresh properly now when making changes to the properties in the header editor and a problem with the scroll bar for large tables has been fixed.
- Default settings for the depth grid and scale are correctly applied when the depth default unit for a new document is set to feet.

- New Hyperlink Object: A new hyperlink object (e.g., URLs or links to media stored in the cloud) can be added to header forms.
- Dynamic Table: A dynamic table object has been introduced to present the data from linked logs in a spreadsheet format.
- Stacking Pattern Log: Legend objects have been updated to accommodate the Stacking Pattern log.
Groundwater
- Transmissivity Calculations: A process to compute the transmissivity of a formation has been added to the collection of groundwater processes.
